BBC Sport journalist Matthew Syed explains how important psychology among athletes is in the battle between success and failure. Each and every competitor has their own routine, superstition and ritual before their sport, which can make a massive difference in their attempt to win gold.

Matthew and the sportsman were filmed entirely against green-screen, then treated and composited with specially-built backgrounds by the Intro inhouse post-production team.

This Film has been nominated for a BAFTA in Visual Effects And Graphic Design 2013.
